I had the opportunity to do back to back S24O's on my new Sam
Hillborne the past two weekends. These were my first attempts at bike
camping since I was a youngster back in the mid '70's.

I was a bit nervous before leaving on the first trip. I had ridden
most of the route but there were a few sections (mainly the off road
part) that I had not tested. Anyway, I loaded up and headed out. As
always, once you get going all the nervous feelings go away and you
just concentrate on the trip. It was great! Didn't forget anything,
got there quicker than expected and overall it was a wonderful
experience!

The second trip was even better than the first...I was able to trim/
add to my cargo, knew what to expect, and the weather was much better
(no wind).

When I first found the Rivendell site, the thing that sold me were the
pictures of S24O's on "roadish bikes". That blew me away because thats
what we used to do before there was such a thing as mountain bikes. It
was like seeing an animal that you assumed was extinct suddenly
walking around in your backyard...crazy.

Here is a rough detail of the route: ~3 miles of neighborhood roads,
~4 miles hike/bike trails (mixed crushed granite/concrete), ~18 miles
major hwy (nice wide shoulder/popular bike route) and then ~5 miles
off road double track rocky/grassy trail. Total one way distance ~30
miles. This is really the only possible S240 route I have identified
in my area. I wish I could find a closer one...and maybe a longer one
but for now - this is it.

What is the makeup of your favorite S24O route? Similar? Way
different?
