Josiah: Thanks. In the event, I simply rode home carrying the wheel in my right hand. The route is mostly dirt acequia roads with gates, and simply stopped and propped the bike up against gates while I carried the wheel around/over, then propped that up and carried the bike around or over. The last 3/4 mile is access roads, and I took a 1/4 mile detour on sidewalk at the busiest part. Sub 2 miles total taking dirt back way. Arm tired upon arrival home.
Really must find those front axle wheel carriers I made a few years ago ...
