So should this thread topic change from 'brifter friendly triples' to
'triple friendly brifters'?

I add a vote for Campy left side brifters working with just about
everything, since Campy left side brifters have a reasonably long
cable pull and ratchet-like trimmability.  Not quite the trimmability
of friction shifters but close enough to work.  Campy is also my
absolute favorite brake lever shape for riding on the hoods.
