I agree on the collectors who will hoard things in a closet, so to
speak-   but on the other hand, if we didn't have museums (which are
really just collectors, institutionalized) artifacts would be doomed
to oblivion through usage, or complete metamorphosis by way of repair,
to the point where artifacts their original form is lost or becomes
ambiguous.

In that sense certain material evidence of history could be lost.
I'm not saying that this particular XO-1 should not be ridden-the-hell-
out-of...    But in a way, the curation of certain cultural icons
(maybe bicycles, maybe musical instruments) is a manner of usage in
itself, ensuring the preservation of iconic points along a timeline
for the purpose of reflection.
