Nah. Not at all garish. Elegant, actually compared to some of the bikes I and my wife have ridden. The tires actually remind me of the old Schwinn Sidewinders. If'n remember correctly, those were available in red.
Also don't consider it an "underbike" except fer the fact many trails have been adapted to the more "boing boing" type of bikes. (Now if you were riding North Shore style, then it's an underbike.)
