+1 to Raising the bars and changing air pressure as good, easy-to-try ideas. I was wondering too which drop bars you're using? You could think about a wider set of drop bars, which might also help with the quick-feeling front end. You might also look into cyclocross-style interrupter brake levers on the tops, which work very well and would potentially give an easier way to brake.
