The CX-50, in addition to a fixed straddle cable has spacers for the pads. You measure the cantilever post spacing, measure your rim width, and consult a table (a PDF on the Shimano site) to choose the best pad spacer.
I have these brakes, they work great, and I may have paid $30 for a bikesworth, brand new. Highly recommended, even with the black pads that are about due for a Koolstop upgrade.
