Yes, but that wasn't the question. The OP was asking for the r/easoning
behind the decision/, and I'm certain (speaking as a moderator and
list-owner of another list with a lot of overlap in membership with this
one) that the decision to do so was neither arbitrary nor capricious. I
know that if I closed off a discussion, I'd have a reason why I did so,
and if asked I'd be willing to share that reasoning. Implying, as you
seem to be doing, that such decisions are arbitrary and capricious,
taken for the sake of wielding power, does a disservice to moderators.
