I've used toe straps on my Carradice for more adjustability, but those are 
still leather. 

The non-Irish version of Riv's Irish straps are called Coghlan's Arno 
straps, and they're handy for stuff like this. You can loop 'em through the 
buckle twice for extra meat. 

I think you're a Westsider now? Adventure16 has 'em.
