I have tail-lights like crazy, but the years have taken their toll and I don't have a headlamp for those first few minutes of the ride before the sun shows its face.
I am thinking of getting through the next few weeks with an improvised headlamp. I have a heavy duty mini MagLite from my days as Rock N Roller and / or Roadie. Has anyone ever mounted one of these gracefully? My goal is to be seen, not to illuminate the pavement. Extra points to someone who can show me how to do it with my John's Irish Strap. Hey there Sean - If you are an ex-roadie (in the rock & roll sense), I would think you could jury rig something with a carved wine cork and a figure-8 loop with the the Irish strap. I used a P-clamp and the threaded boss on the Nitto Mini-Front rack: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclofiend/3311846292 I would suggest that the mini-maglite probably doesn't give any actual side visibility to traffic. If the goal is a "be-seen" light, it might be better just to find an inexpensive mulit-LED unit. Augmenting with reflective tape (and certainly the Riv wheel reflector) is a very useful step. Above all, I'd get a headlamp, as that has gotten the attention of many a motorist entering from a side street or exiting from a parking lot. best of luck & be safe! - Jim -- Jim Edgar cyclofi...@earthlink.net Cyclofiend Bicycle Photo Galleries - http://www.cyclofiend.com Current Classics - Cross Bikes Singlespeed - Working Bikes Send In Your Photos! - Here's how: http://www.cyclofiend.com/guidelines "That which is overdesigned, too highly specific, anticipates outcome; the anticipation of outcome guarantees, if not failure, the absence of grace."
