Someone on the CR list uses large veterinary syringes and needles to insert sealant; the sealant -- you might figger this out yourself -- seals the little hole.
Still, he has to use ammonia to keep the needle clean, so the upshot, seems to me, is that the "remove valve core" method is not much more of a chore. Removing cores: if the core is "non-removable", you can remove it anyway by forcing off the locknut and letting the core drop into the tube, *while carefully pinching tube under valve stem to catch and hold it while you insert the sealant.* Work core back up afterward -- not hard; I've even captured and worked back into place many a core lost in the abyss of the tube -- and force locknut back on.
