I've owned a half dozen Rivs and most of them were at least partially built with stuff I had lying around.
As others have noted, those old LX cranks need a long spindle which could take some work to find. I believe what you have now is a cup-and-cone BB, I'll bet you could install it on your Sam with fresh grease and it'll be good to go.
