Hi, I just bought a New Old Stock 2009 Sam Hillborne 60cm frame, and am going through the travails of building it out. This is my first Rivendell and I'm pretty excited about it, but it is also my first full build and I'm finding out all sorts of stuff I didn't know.
It feels slightly sacrilegious to say this, but I was hoping to use some used drivetrain parts I already have, so I can start riding the Sam sooner. I'd love some shiny new parts but I just spent more than I intended on a frame. Do other RBW owners use older parts, or is that more of classic and vintage thing? The parts I'm hoping to use are Shimano Exage 300LX parts from a barely used 1992 XO-3. The main problem now is the that the bottom bracket in the bike is too short, so the crank would rub the chainstay. On the other hand, I think the grease is all dried up in there, so it might be just as easy to replace it as fix it.
