One way to find out if it works for you. Grin. Will you notice the difference? 
Most likely. Will it be enough? Only you can say.

Have you considered using a flip-flop set up, so you have a high and a low? Or 
Dos Enos freewheel by White Industries? The QuickBeam has an 8t range built 
into the length of the track dropout, so you have room to play and keep you 
current gearing for those times you hit the open road!

Or, persivere with your current gearing. It is surprising how quickly we get 
stronger and find it easy to pedal slow.
