A while back I happened on an Italian made cashmere sweater with a 1/4 zip front that looked kind of like a more toned down version of a wool riding jersey. It was marked way down (one benefit of the economic crisis) to the point where it was almost as cheap as a decent jersey, so I bought it.
We finally had some decent riding weather here in Chicago, mid to upper 30s, slight wind, most importantly, no precip. I wore the sweater over a merino base layer with a very light wind breaker. Rode about 30 miles, give or take. Cashmere is very light weight - maybe 1/4 lighter than comparable merino wool - with superior insulation. I was not cold at all on the ride. Half way through the ride even had to take off the wind breaker. The sweater is so thin and light it was almost like riding in a short sleeve shirt on a warm day. Imagine riding in cashmere is a bit of a luxury, but then so is riding an elegant lugged steel bike with a perfect paint job. If you can find one your size on sale, I suggest giving it a try. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
