Installing a new plastic piece helped slightly, but not enough. Additional washers on either side also didn't help. Inspecting the lever further it seems the internal ratcheting mechanism is completely worn. The shifter used to be on the right side when I had Choco bars, so it did higher use.
I've swapped the shifter out for now. Anyone know if you can get replacement levers, or just a left? thanks for the help.
