While I am not familiar with the IRD ones, I have ridden multilpe pairs of
Suntour Thumbshifters since forever. My best "guess" from experience with these
is silimlar to dt shifters in that what "holds" the shifter in place in a
perfect amount of pressure from the bolt, allowing just the necessary free
rotation while retaining just enough pressure to hold it in place. On the
Suntours there is a metal washer under the bolt that allows that "just right"
balance of pressure and movement. The IRD appears to not have any washer from
looking at pictures just a plastic whatchmacallit that is common on dt
shifters. My first guess is that it has worn down/compressed and now is not
thick enough to maintain pressure. A very thin metal washer, as in razor thin,
between the bolt and the plastic may add the necessary thickness to provide the
needed pressure again.

If not ....I would contact IRD for sure.
