so i'm doing something that i'm sure nobody here has done, e.g. buy up
parts for my next bike without really knowing what it will be ;)

now of course that's not totally possible.. but i'm keeping my eyes
out for good deals on pedals, a saddle, seatposts, racks, etc., that
are the kind i like.. the stem/quill isn't something that's probably
totally safe to buy before a frame, but... i'm thinking threaded-
compatible, so that i can swap around with my other Rivendell
(assuming my 2nd road bike also is flav-riv-full)...

so i'm keeping a watch on used/deals for a nitto lugged quill stem..
but i see that they come in 8-12 cm sizes.. and i have no real idea
what that means in terms of "fit".. i'll prob go with noodle or
moustache bars, and i'm about 2/3rds torso ... does that mean i should
try to score a shorter stem? or should i wait on that part entirely
(it'd be safer, but ...)

thanks for any thoughts.
