Mikey, I used the Maxxis Overdrive tires on my Trek 520 for several years. This is my touring and sometimes commuter bike. It was always very rough and harsh over bumps, nothing like my Rambouillet so I just wrote it off to the heavy and stiff frame. Even riding with very low tire pressures (<50psi in front) didn't seem to make much difference.
Dick Denning at the Country Bike Shop suggesteted I try some Panaracer tires with much more flexible side walls. Last fall I got some Pasela Tour Guards in 700 X 35 and it made an amazing difference in the ride of the Trek. Noticeably more comfortable over rough pavement. Have ridden several hundred miles without any problems. In defense of the Maxxis tires, I never had a flat with them. They are very heavy robust commuter tires and were trouble free for me. Don't think I will be going back though. Really enjoy the comfort of the Pasela tires. I've used the 700x35 Maxxis Locust cross tire for quite a while which is great off road and decent on road. I really would prefer a 700x40 or bigger for my Hillborne all rounder. Just not many choices out there except for Schwalbe in big sizes.
