Ted, the details of chainline and all the factors that go into it are lost on me. I work with Rivendell to guide me through it in setting things up. However, I’ve learned that many single/fixed freewheels/cogs that aren’t track specific say they are designed for 8 or 9 speed, especially Dos ENO, Dingle Cogs, etc. Everything I’ve seen says 1/8 chain is not what it used to be, so the arguement of longer life is moot. I just ride 9-speed chain, which is designed to have some flex in chainline, so the minor differences in a singlespeed or fixed set up will be no big deal, especially compared with a 9-speed cassette and triple chainring. Not sure if that helps you or not.
