Seth, Rivendell riders & friends,

When I had Atlantis built back in 2005 or so, I had my bicycle built with "M" handle bars and drop handle bars with cable splitters. But to tell the truth after I started using the "M" handle bars, I never switched back. I still have the Drop bars mounted Nitto dirt drop stem with its own set (9) speed bar con shifters, in the box. Maybe should I ride my bicycle to Grand Island,NE again like I did with my Cannondale T800 Custom Touring in 2000, I would put the Drop bars on the Atlantis. You know if you ever rode your bicycle thru KS, you need get down the lowest you can & the "M" bars or upright bars will not allow that. I have the Gordon Set.

I sure like my Rivendell Grip King Pedals. I use them on my Giant Hybrid Cypress Deluxe (beater bicycle). That bike was great on a rainy day like we had today. I bought a set for the Atlantis & maybe when I get my next welfare check(SS), I will buy another another set for the Redwood. they are perfect for day rides here in southern CA.

TOC is not a problem for me & i wear a size 13 shoe, 6 E wide. Just maybe if you wear a size 16 shoe or bigger, it might be a problem. I use the <SCOR KneeSavers> pedal expanders on all my bikes.

Have any of you folks fit your bike with cable splitters? I want to
know if they REALLY do not require cable adjustment each time you
unscrew and re-screw them together. Is it really just separate the
splitters, remove the H-bars, insert different H-bars, rejoin the
cables, and ride away? No adjustments whatsoever? I'm looking at
Gordon's set, the ones he calls 2Q2, or somesuch.

That's how mine work. Here's the process I use:

1. shift into whatever direction on both shifters gives you the most slack
2. unhitch the straddle cable on your rear brake.
3. disconnect the cable carrier on the front brake (I'm not sure if
you could do this with side pulls at all)
4.unscrew the cable splitters
5. unbolt your downtube cable stops (if you have them)
6. change out your bars, bolt on the new downtube cable stops (if you have them)
7. reattach everything
8. test your brakes
9. shift a bit
10. ride away.

The whole process takes 5-10 minutes depending on various things.

It's a little bit of a pain in the ass to get right the first time
just remember this:
shifter cables are cheap. Buy a goodly number of them.
