I've been riding the standard friction or Shimano-indexed bar-end Riv-type
setup for 25 years. My only extremely limited experience of what you're
contemplating was a ride around the building on a demo Roadeo at RBW HQ. It had
a 105 group, 10-speed I think. My first (very surprised) reaction was, "Oh,
that's why people like this stuff." The levers were perfect, the shifting was
perfect, the brakes were great, everything just WORKED.

I'm not a dropbar guy these days, but if I ever decided to try it again and pop
for a Roadeo or Roadini, it's no contes, I'd get a modern brifter group. Maybe
even electronic.
