To add to the suggestions, I'm a fan of the Patagonia Houdini jacket and pants. What they lack in features (few pockets, no pitzips, single action zipper, etc) they make up for in packability and price. I wear the jacket alone, or over a vest if I need extra protection. I keep them rolled up in my commuting bag and virtually no space or weight penalty, and it gives me peace of mind to know that I always have an extra "go to" layer if I need it.
