The prices asked, perhaps paid, for XO-1s must be purely the reasult of a collectors' mentality, since the frames themselves are not exceptional compared to what Grant made later on. Compared to the Atlantis, even the Sam Hillborne, and even to the original Rivendell All Rounder, the XO-1 is a low budget, nice but not exceptional, first foray into the world of a 26" wheel "country bike." "Holy Grail" for name/model collectors, but not compared to the much better frames that followed it.
Patrick "ask me how I know" Moore, who'll tell you without being asked: I owned a '92 XO-1, then asked Grant to build me a 26" wheel road custom that was "better" than the XO-1, and based on the All Rounder, but roadified; this was head, shoulders, and waist above the XO-1; and then he built me 2 more that were in turn huge levels above the first custom which, itself, was considerably better than the XO-1. And this doesn't even take into account the Atlantis, the Sam Hill, and the other models which followed; the Atlantis (from hearsay) and the Sam Hill (from experience) are both, also, better than the XO-1.
