I have carried a fair amount of weight in my Nelson LF on my Rambouillet. It only seems to affect the handling when standing up. The advantage of the Carradice, or other large saddle bag, is that it keeps the load above the fender. Panniers (I prefer Arkels) keep the load lower and ride better, but if you hit rain , there down there in the muck.
