Lesli: I set up one of my bikes with a Huret Duopar Eco rear derailleur, which I believe the great Frank Berto once called one of the best derailleurs ever made. It’s a bike heavy and complicated, but it does in fact shift very well (although it’s not indexed). I paired it with a matching Huret front derailleur and a set of Sachs friction levers (with a 7-speed cassette) for a decidedly French look.
The Duopar Eco is not very expensive and can be found pretty easily on eBay. If you want to drop some serious coin, wait for the much rarer titanium version to show up for sale. My experience with Mafac brakes and levers is a little different than Patrick’s. I have three bikes set up with Racers and Mafac levers, and they all work well. I do like the Mafac racer brakes, but it might be hard to find a set for recessed mounting, so that might be a problem depending on what frame you are mounting them on. A nice alternative to Mafac levers that I’ve found are the Gran Compe levers sold by Velo Orange: https://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/components/brakes/levers/gran-compe-202-non-aero-brake-levers-drilled.html I am using them with a set of Tektro long reach dual pivots, and they work just fine. I like the natural color gum lever hoods. --Eric N www.CampyOnly.com CampyOnlyGuy.blogspot.com Twitter: @CampyOnlyGuy > On Jul 19, 2017, at 3:46 PM, Patrick Moore <bertin...@gmail.com> wrote: > > Leslie: It all depends what you mean by "vintage."
