i rode for a number of weeks with the same bag, unsupported, on my commuter, fully loaded with work clothes, food, tools, etc. The bag did sway a bit, but rest upon the rear fender. The issue was that the bag loop straps started to wear through; a rear rack and quick filing of the inside edges of the loops on my B-17 fixed the problem.
