My friend decided that he was going to set a ride goal of doing one century a month for 2010. I decided I would tag along on some of them. Well, he got his "January" century in a couple weeks back, but since we had some overlapping time off and the weather was cooperative, we decided to head out together for another one yesterday.
Now my longest ride for the last 12 months was maybe 30-40mi. Last weekend I did a 50mi, and yesterday 100. There is something to be said for pushing your limits. I honestly didnt think I would be able to complete it, but the last 50 actually felt better despite some horrible mud conditions that started at the 75mi mark. We planned our route to include a 12 mile section of trail that is packed road base material. We hit his area at @ 75 miles in and quickly realized that the half melted snow and ice had turned it into a total quicksand slop fest. Even though it's primarily flat we were doing no better than 7mph at a maximum effort. Halfway through that we detoured to pavement and finished the last leg pushing a healthy 19mph. For some reason, I decided to pack a bunch of stuff with the idea of pulling off the trail and brewing up some coffee with my camping stove. So along with my normal tube, tools, patch kit, pump and wind shell, I slogged panniers full of crap we never even used. I am embarrassed to admit my Bleriot weighed in at 43lbs loaded. Total mileage for me was 98.2 with 1900ft in elevation gains and took about 7hrs. Here are a few pictures from the day. http://www.flickr.com/photos/42027...@n00/sets/72157623111934167/
