IMO the terrain dictates the kinda optimal rig one chooses. Of course there
is some overlap where in one type of bike design can traverse said course
but the bike begins to manifest it's limits.

Think of it like your a through hiker doing the PCT, you know you have
thousands of miles to go. So you choose the lightest gear you can muster.
For shoes you decide to wear your super comfortable running shoes because
they're so cushioned and light. You've trail run with them and you never
had a problem. So you start the PCT from the Mexico boarder and hike
through the desert and by the time you get a couple hundred miles the shoes
offer no support and they're falling apart.

How you have used Homer is IMHO the perfect utilization.

>From others who've done the divide it does sound like there are plenty of
actual roads you could jump on yet risking missing the most beautiful parts.

I still think a used Fargo is perfect. Comfortable Geo, mechanical disc
brakes and plenty of rack attachment points.
