I'm not familiar with the Tubus Nova, so thanks for the link to that information from: http://www.bikeforums.net/touring/683182-front-low- rider-rack-riv-atlantis-tubus-tara-ergo-nova-other.html
However, some of these statements are out of date, incorrect, or not valid with Ortliebs: Having used both, I prefer the Nova over the Tara, for the following reasons: 1. More options for mounting it level - the Tara has one hole for attaching the top rail, the Nova has two. 1: The current Tara has a horizontal hole for the top rail. INVALID 2. The stainless steel Nova won't rust, whereas the CroMo Tara will get scratches and you need to take care of those to stop the rust from developing. 2: VALID! Stainless is nice. 3. The Tara has a curved bottom which is unfriendly to bungee hooks (if you use that style of pannier, e.g. Arkel) - the hook slides off very easily. The Nova bottom is flat, and holds a hook in place much better. 3: The bottom of the Tara is horizontal (not curved), but the horizontal section is shorter than the Nova's. This isn't relevant to Ortlieb panniers, with an adjustable lower hook. 4. My Nova still has the pannier hook on the bottom, whereas they have taken this off the Tara. 4: Not relevant to Ortliebs 5. The Tara main tube is very thick, too thick in fact for the Ortlieb or Arkel hooks to fit comfortably. It kind of wedges in a way that makes me feel like it's being strained and could break. The Nova has standard size tubing all over. 5: The top rails appear to be the same size? Also, Ortliebs have different hook inserts as I mentioned previously. 6. The Nova has a nice diagonal strut near the bottom, which is flattened and perfect for hooking the Ortlieb onto. 6: The lower hook of an Ortlieb pannier is very easy to hook onto the Tara as well. Cost of a Tubus Nova (stainless) from Wiggle: $140.49 plus shipping <http://www.wiggle.co.uk/?s=tubus+nova>. Cost of a Tubus Tara from bike-discount.de: $52.52 plus shipping. <https://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/tubus-tara-lowrider-26-28-553884?currency=5&delivery_country=191> At less than half of the price of the Nova (and a third of the Nitto Campee), I find the Tara to be an excellent rack for mounting Ortlieb panniers. I sold two Nitto Campee racks recently because they're bulky, heavy, and expensive. I picked up two Tubus Tara racks for front pannier duty. The Nitto Mini front racks stay on my bikes full-time, and the Taras go on and off as required.
