Thanks, all. So the answer is clearly "Yes and No."

Chris: agree wholeheartedly about body position: that's why high and close
up for M bars doesn't work for me (low and far is only a bit better,
though). Saddle angle is fine.

I'll pass on the Albastaches until and unless I find a used on on sale very
cheap. Meanwhile, I'm due to receive a stem extender device for the Dahon
stem that will give me a couple more inches of reach, and perhaps that will
make the M bar a bit more comfortable.

I'd install a drop bar, but that would make folding awkward -- I think.
