Reminds me of my first custom. Grant was exceptionally accommodating, as even back then he favored big frames compared to the rest of the sizing universe.
I asked him for a road bike sort of like my '92 XO-1, but "better." He said, "Oh, it will be better" and built it around the original All Rounder design but with road tubing and geometry. However, in place of my 55 cm c-c XO, this first Road was 54 c-c with a 56.5 level tt (I eventually got a custom Salsa stem for it). I told him I would post photos of it for other Rivendell customers to see; he said, "Don't you dare." Thanks, Grant, for accommodating my design idiosyncrasies; the '95 was very nice, the '99 and the '03 (57 and 58 c-c) are still Peak Frame Design. I recall, also, having to convince him in 1998 that I really knew what I was doing when I ordered a stripped down, 26" wheel, fixed gear gofast with single cage brazeons, no rear brake provision, and chain catcher. He said, somewhat reluctantly (paraphrase): I'll do it for you, but I wouldn't do it for just anybody. Thanks again! The gofast is still a gofast -- hasn't been converted into a touring bike. On to the book: Photos of '90s Bridgestone ads and text from the best of the Bridgestone catalogues. IME, some of the content was Bridgestone/BOB/Rivendell high points. Oh! Evolution of Rivendell baggage. And the wonderful nut-shell-buttoned, shoulder-fastening jerseys -- heck, evolution of Rivendell clothing. Nice and weird and rare NOS stuff Rivendell sold in the early years, like the Valentino front derailleur. A section devoted to the sleekest Rivendell racing bikes. (Just kidding, but barely.) THis might be a pretty fat book! On Sat, Nov 12, 2016 at 11:30 PM, lum gim fong <[email protected]> wrote: > A big picture book of 'dells. > Color. Glossy pages. > Heavy.
