Hi all,

Thought I'd start a new thread so it's easy for others to find the
reference. Will continue the old thread as I add the fenders to my Cheviot.

I did it! Thanks to Sheldon and my fortuitous find of his article where he
states that on Mixtes, the rear brake can be placed indistinctly above or
below the brake bridge if you're using centerpulls, I solved the problem I
had.

Today I completed the build, and ended up choosing the Paul Racers over the
Día-Compre 750s because the Racers are wider and actually have more
clearance for the fenders, whereas the 750 are longer in the arms, so are
probably better for 650b conversions. Unfortunately, they aren't that long
that would allow 650b wheels to be placed on the 60cm Cheviot. I don't know
how the Cheviot would have handled with those, if they had worked, but it
would have allowed for wider tires/more fender clearance. As it stands, I
believe there is enough clearance for the 44mm tires with 51mm Honjo
fenders, and for sure super clearance for the 38mm tires.

I "discovered" that I could replace the screw on my rear Paul Racer that
was originally set up for the recessed mount for a longer screw to us the
traditional nut mount and I used the valve ring (that tightens it against
the rim) to fill the recess for the reverse mounting of the brake. It came
out fantastic.

The only "casualty" in this operation was the pump peg, which was clearly
interfering with the cable yoke and since I don't plan to use a frame pump
(and don't know if they make them that long anymore for the 60cm frame), I
had no qualms cutting it off and applying a coat of nail polish over the
raw metal.

The last detail was the installation of a polished (by special request)
Paul front cable hanger. They aren't available in polish normally, but I
sent Paul an e-mail, he put me in touch with someone in the office and I
just had to wait until they were ready. I ordered several, and I'll replace
the standard one with the polished one on my custom as well. They're
beautiful.

Photos prove that the result is exactly what I wanted, and it is
aesthetically awesome as well. Now I just have to get in the right mindset
to do the fendering before I install the rear rack, and the Cheviot will be
complete. I just love it! Best decision I ever made was to upgrade from the
58 Betty to the 60 Cheviot. Even my son commented on how beautiful the
color is. Scroll to the right - https://flic.kr/p/MQrEBd
