Kai, in your neck of the woods 718 Cyclery is a welcoming shop. You probably know they are a Riv dealer. Easy to see why. I had the pleasure of visiting there two weeks ago. Talked with a nice lady named Lee. Lots of fat tire bikes; few if any roadies. Three Rivs on the floor: two Joe Appas and one Clem. Lee offered to let me ride one but I didn't want to test out the unfamiliar Brooklyn streets.
