M5x.8 is "standard" for 99% of bike applications - dropout eyelets,
down tube shifter brazeons, etc. Not.sure why (or if in fact you
should be doing so!) your tap doesn't play nice w/ your frame - but,
careful Will Robinson!
M5x1.0 is a very obscure ("French") threading- some Simplex
retrofrictions used this.
