Yes, Bruce the Ram is awesome, and I see the Roadeo as finally being the bike to come along and take its place, but if one already has a Ram, he/she might be all set. That red 63 cm Roadeo at Rivendell was tempting me a bit, but I am 100% over it once I realized that in this size, my Ram and that Roadeo frame are only negligiby different in weight. If I want a Rodeo-style clubster in this size, I can do it; it's just a matter of hanging different parts on the Ram. If I were to get that Roadeo frame, I'd probably put a Sugino triple crank, an 11-34 in the rear and Jack Brown tires - uh, it's close to the bike I already have, but with these differences:

-the stem would be threadless

-a 43.5 cm chainstay instead of a 44.5 cm

-BB would be 4 mm higher

-43.5 mm fork rake instead of 42.5 mm

-One fewer mount for water bottles!

But I'm glad that Rivendell complemented its line-up by re-introducing a road bike similar to the Rambouillet but giving it some slightly racier tendencies. Is it fair to say that the sprectrum used to be Ram-Saluki-Atlantis, but now it has widened a bit to Roadeo-AHH-Bombadil with the center point being pretty much the same?

Happy Road Riding,

Jim W.

My thoughts exactly. armed with a new vocabulary, despite the brisk temps (40s) which bite with a 10 - 15 mph headwind. After 4 days of rain, I was jonesing to go.

First though,  using some new found vocabulary, I emlittlened my Rambouillet by putting on 28mm ultra gatorskins in place of the 37mm Paselas, and replacing the Sugino XD triple with a Sugino GX double. Voila! Ramodeo! You know, what really gives the bike a whole 'nother feel is the close set pedal spacing (small Q factor) of the GX. And of course a 53 ring will wind up and go faster than a 48 can. While it FELT way faster than the old set up, in reality, I was maybe 1.5 mph over when the average would have been the other way. I'm NOT used to hills on a 39 ring just yet. Sometimes, a change up is just fun. The other wheelset is really a CX, so my riding buddy and I are talking about trying some cyclocross. Will that make my bike a Ramolas? Could be!!

Tailwinds!
