I like Bill's and Deacon's notion of "pay it forward in goods to the group." (When I asked about a monetary donation to Jim, it was a holdover from the Cyclofiend days when he requested donations to help with server fees, if I recall.)
Suggestion: Perhaps when we post each free/pay-it-forward item, we could use a fixed category title, such as "Pay It Forward: Sugino 46T Chainring." With such a fixed and specific title, the subject and category and item will be instantly understood.
