Obenauf's melted in with a hair dryer maybe? For dressing the stem ends, try beeswax melted into hemp twine. Wax the twine first, wrap it on, then go over it lightly with a propane torch. The fuzzys burn off. Durable, good looking, doesn't waterlog, and good grip.
