Yes, they look too high but if it works for you who cares? If having the bars that high is making your riding more enjoyable or allowing you to ride more/ longer then I say ride with pride!
I once had an old Audi. People would often make comments and I'd say "It took me a long time to find one in this condition". The idea that the car was what I wanted made people think it was cool or desirable instead of something I was stuck with driving. I'd do the same thing here if I were you: Comment: "Those bars are HIGH!" You: "Yeah, it took me a long time to find the right stem." Happy riding!
