Paul Thumbies are bases for shifters. You decide what shifter to put on there. If you choose to use friction shifters like Rivendell Silvers, there is no constraint. If you choose to use Shimano Barcons on your Paul Thumbies, and insist on using the indexed one for the rear, and prefer to use that on your right hand, then you likely are facing a constraint because you can't flip it over to its own mirror image. Is that where you are at?
