Mafac Racers were OEM equipment on French bikes for years. If your area had a concentration of French bikes during the early 70s bike boom, there will be discarded Mafacs in every shop's junkpile, every bike kitchen, every scrapyard.
Midrange Racers are the most common Mafacs, by far. You might just barely be able to do a 700c>650b conversion with Racers, but a 27" conversion will require longer brakes.
