I use a front porteur type carrier with a big Wald on a high trail bicycle. I originally got it when I put my daughter in a seat on the rear rack, and couldn't use my rear rack, or a backpack because it was in her face. I have a longish bicycle, though not Clem long. It works fine. I have even put significant weight in it. It takes a while to get used to the steering, and the steering isn't as quick, but I am fine with it on city streets. It did take me a while to get used to it, and early on I had some wobbly moments. But, it is ok now that I have used it for a while. I still don't load it up much if my daughter is in the back - I want to be able to steer well with her, but with her lightly loaded daycare bag and my work bag it is fine, and even a little nice to have some weight up front to balance the load.
