For the past month I've been wearing Giro New Republic bike shoes. They look like old school leather shoes and are very comfortable. They are designed for SPD pedals, but my feet/legs/ankles are not compatible with clipless pedals, so I modified the shoes to work with an old pair of MKS steel cage pedals. I unscrewed the outer pads from the soles of the shoes and cut the rubber treads off a pair of flip flops. I then cut the rubber treads to size and screwed them to the soles of the New Republic shoes. They work great! I really like the rigid soles, I was noticing some stress from my feet flexing when I had rode longer distances, greater than 10 miles, with my Keen sandals. I got my New Republic shoes on sale for about $95. The leather Republic shoes are a $100 more, which is out of my price range. JohnS
