Thanks. All of this retrospective effort to turn this wonderful bike into a sort of integrated (integrating racks, wiring, fenders) fun to ride but useful errand bike has shown me concretely that so integrating a bike requires a lot more than simply knowing what you'd like it to do and a lot more than knowing how to braze good racks and braze-on adaptions. It really does seem to be a matter of a kind of design wisdom that allows you to plan everything from the very beginning.
Still, I'm happy with it; hell, I was happy with it when it had a Fly and Planet Bike fenders. If the Honjos crack, so be it; it will be time, then, for the, frankly, better fitting 650B 40 mm stainless steel Berthouds. This is the 3d rear rack (and first front set) that Chauncey has made for me; # 1 was too small; # 2 was too big; # 3 is almost (not quite, but good enough) Goldilocks. Chauncey charges so little ($100 per rack) that, to sum all up, I don't really mind. I have the last rack for sale, if anyone is interested.
