At least for the next few years, I do not realistically expect to be taking any tours longer than four days and then most will be of the credit card variety.
Given this I could get down to two bikes if I were to press my road bike into tour duty. An added advantage would be I really like riding my road bike, but other than the occasional free weekend afternoon rarely do. Looking at logistics: A large saddle bag and small handle bar bag would easily hold all my gear. There are some pretty nice battery lights on the market now. My road bike does not have fender eyelets. Riv's solution is their regular (and quite nice indeed) fenders attached using Nitto band clamps <http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/rh3.htm>. The other option would be one of these snap on deal from the likes of SKS <https://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=56365&category=78> or Crud Road Catcher <https://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=41179&category=78>. I am quite sure the Riv solution works well. If the other options are nearly so good I may prefer as getting on and off would be easier with less chance I would mess up the paint.
