thanks for the responses. ill be purchasing one today. patrick, though not my original intent, i've been riding without one for the last week and i have to admit it is liberating. i will be putting a fd back on (i live at the top of a pretty steep hill), but it certainly has shown me how little i need to actually be shifting.
