Drew, on my Hunqapillar I have removed my front derailer and have a middle
"narrow wide" 38t chain ring and a 24 granny. I am nearly always in the
middle, and simply view the big chainring as a rock guard. I figure I'll
ride this crank till it is done, then get a doublewide to replace it,
hopefully after many more miles. I'm not concerned about weight, just
simplicity, and this set up is wonderfully simple as an effective 1 x 9
with a granny gear option for mountain trail bikepacking.

With abandon,
Patrick
