I had no idea that "read between the lines" was a thing with three fingers. 
What a sheltered life I lead!

Good to know I (mostly) did the right thing. Yes, becoming one with traffic 
is the best way wherever it can be done safely. The trick is this stretch 
is one I ofter ride because the main route through town is a major highway 
and everyone speeds 10-20 mph above the posted to get through town and no 
shoulder and unridable sidewalk. Woodland Park is not well engineered for 
biking and it's even had recent "improvements" that did nothing to help 
bicycles.
