On this afternoon’s grocery run (5 miles up the pass empty, 5 down loaded) I
got yelled at for the first time. Looking for ideas on where to ride through an
area that:

— 2 lane, no shoulder
— school zone with stop signs every block for a while
— school is letting out, high school, with elementary kids still on the
sidewalks with crossing guards.
— stead climb for me, so I’m not fast
— high school kid’s cars parked on the right, so car doors can open at any time.

I took the lane and it went fine until a guy in a truck squeezed by with barely
any room. His windows were down so I politely held up three fingers and said
“three feet of clearance please!” He pulled over into an empty parking place, I
went wide around him. Then he pulled out several cars later and was stuck
behind be until I turned left further up the road. Poor guy was still yelling
as he continued on his way.

My plan is to handle this the same way in the future, unless the wisdom of this
groups helps me see a better way. All ideas welcome! Thanks.

With abandon,
Patrick
