I would definitely go for the LHT- your Dad will love it. My family and I just bought one for my Dad, and I was kind of jealous, it was sooo nice. We went all out; I put a brooks b68 saddle, SKS fenders, a nitto campee rack, and albatross bars on it. It looks really awesome. But again, you'll probably have to spend more than a grand. How much more depends on what you outfit it with.
